National Scenic Byway 12
Utah's All American Road

The Federal Highway Administration has designated Scenic Byway 12 as an All American Road. To qualify for such an honor, "All American Roads" have such unique features and so exceptional that they are a destination themselves; such is Scenic Byway 12.

The 124-mile route winds through the heart of Bryce Canyon Country. It begins south of Panguitch on US 89 and travels eastward through Dixie National Forest, Utah's largest national forest. Among the many breath taking views is Escalante Mountain or Powell Point located on the Aquarius Plateau, the highest plateau in north america, rising 11,328 feet above sea level and is seen along much of Byway 12.

Many state parks are accessible, with exciting adventures and spectacular scenery awaiting the traveler. S
ee the unique rock formations of "Chimney Rock" and "Grosvenor Arch" located in Kodachrome Basin, explore the Escalante Petrified Forest, which showcases petrified wood and fossilized dinosaur bones; step back in time to 1050 AD when the Fremont and the Kayenta Anasazi occupied the area at the Anasazi State Park. Among the many activities are: hiking, horseback riding, hunting, fishing, and camping, Bryce Canyon Country has 2,500 miles of ATV trails to explore.
