Spay & Neuter Pets:Â Spaying and neutering is one of the greatest gifts you can provide your pet, your family, and your community. These routine medical procedures not only help control pet overpopulation, but they may also prevent medical and behavioral problems from developing, allowing your pet to lead a longer, healthier and happier life.
Dogs at Large: Residents in our community are frustrated with the many dogs running at large, having no restraint on where they go or what mischief they are causing. Addressing the issue at hand, we remind everyone there is an animal control ordinance, which outlines licensing, harboring, running at large and other violation(s) and fees associated therewith. Â For the safety of the community and welfare of your pet, please be responsible dog owners keeping your pet contained within the boundaries of your home/property; license your dog(s), whether your pet is inside or outside.
Licenses are $10 for spayed/neutered and $35 for non-spayed or neutered; a Kennel License is required for owning 3 or more dogs-Kennel Licenses are $100. Citations will be issued by the Garfield County Sheriff’s office to those whose dogs are running at large, are deemed dangerous, are causing damage, or becoming a nuisance in the community. Citizens should report all dog issue to Tropic Town animal control officer Kent Johnson 801-803-4999, Council Member Lisa Johnson 801-803-4883 or County Sheriff’s office: 435-676-2678. Ordinances outlining the regulations and containment dogs, and of farm animals such as chickens, goats, i.e. are available at the Tropic Town Office.

Dear Residents: Mayor Brinkerhoff and the Town Council are sending a plea to those in the community with dogs to properly license and care for your pets. Owning a dog or any domestic animal comes with certain responsibilities, some of which has become a grave concern to the safety and welfare of the community and to the pet itself; the un-licensed and/or running at large. With the weather warming, our community is once again bustling with activities; many tourists as well as locals are accessing our businesses and neighborhoods. We remind everyone there is an animal control ordinance, which outlines licensing, operation of harboring/kennel, running at large and other violation(s) and the fees associated therewith. Please be responsible dog owners keeping your pet contained within the boundaries of your home/property; license your dog(s), whether your pet is inside or outside; and if you are walking your dog, please use a leash. Calls continue to be received reporting being chased by dogs, killing of farm animals and other domestic pets. Proper identification is needed when notifying ownership of dogs found to have gotten loose. Licenses are issued each Calendar Year; the follow Licensing & Impounding Fees are: *Licenses: $10 for spayed/neutered and $35 for non-spayed or neutered. *Kennel License: $100 ~ Three (3) or more dogs over the age of 6 month *Impounding & Holding Fees: $25 Plus $10 each day the dog has been impounded.          If Licensed:       *1st offense: Returned and the $10 Holding fee charged       *2nd Offense and thereafter: $100 Impounding Fee & Harboring Fee          Not Licensed:      *1st offense: Licensing Fee & Holding Fee      *2nd offense and thereafter: $100 Impounding Fee & Harboring Fee Citations will be issued by the Garfield County Sheriff’s office to those whose dogs are running at large, are deemed dangerous, are causing damage, or becoming a nuisance in the community.
