Fire Restriction Order (Stage 2)
Tropic, Utah
Due to current and forecasted weather conditions coupled with the extremely dry conditions, it has been determined that measures must be taken to prevent the ignition of forest and rangeland fires. Therefore, the Town of Tropic has prohibited the following acts within the Town boundaries:
Prohibited Activities
- Building, maintaining, attending, or using a fire or campfire, including charcoal grills, pellet grills, or other ash-producing fuel. Properly shielded gas or liquid-fueled portable camp stoves with a shut-off valve are allowed, provided there is at least a three-foot diameter area free of flammable vegetation around the device.
- Smoking, except within an enclosed vehicle, camp trailer, or building, a developed recreation site, or while stopped in an area that is paved or free from dry vegetation.
- Discharging or using any kind of fireworks (Utah Code § 15A-5-202.5(1)(b)).
- Discharging or using any tracer ammunition or other pyrotechnic devices, including exploding targets.
- Cutting, welding, or grinding metal in areas of dry vegetation.
- Operating a motorcycle, chainsaw, ATV, or other small internal combustion engine without an approved and working spark arrestor.
Allowed During Stage 2
Note: A pressurized water system must be available on unincorporated state and private lands and throughout the incorporated Town of Tropic boundaries, including campgrounds.
- Persons with a permit or waiver specifically issued by the Fire Chief authorizing a specified act at a specific location. A waiver does not relieve the permittee of liability if a fire occurs.
- Pressurized fuel devices, including pellet, liquid-fueled, or gas-powered stoves, grills, and lanterns equipped with shut-off valves, when used in an area with at least three feet of clearance from flammable materials such as grasses, brush, weeds, or pine needles.
- Any on-duty firefighter performing an official duty.
Violations: Violations of this order are punishable under Town of Tropic Ordinance No. 2026-1.
Area Description: The entire incorporated Town of Tropic boundaries.
Effective Date: 12:01 A.M., June 26, 2026
